1. What types of surf lessons does Oléron Surf Club offer?
We offer group lessons, private lessons, surf courses, and packages tailored to all ages and skill levels, supervised by certified instructors.
2. Where do the surf lessons take place?
Lessons are held on the sandy beach of Vert-Bois, a well-known surf spot on Oléron Island thanks to its consistent waves and preserved natural environment. It's suitable for both beginners and advanced surfers.
3. What is the minimum age to start surfing?
Children can start from the age of 6, using adapted equipment and a fun, safe teaching approach. All our instructors are used to teaching children and school groups throughout the year, from beginners to competitive levels. We adjust the gear, safety instructions, and teaching methods to each student's age and ability.
4. Do you need to know how to swim to take a surf lesson?
Yes, it's preferable. However, beginners—both children and adults—stay in shallow water where they can touch the bottom. Safety remains a top priority during lessons.
5. What are the lesson times?
During summer (July–August), lessons typically run from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Outside of summer, schedules vary daily depending on tides and weather conditions. We inform you the day before for the next day.
6. What are the prices for surf lessons?
Prices vary based on the package: single lessons, 3-day or 5-day courses, or weekend camps. You can check up-to-date pricing on our online booking page and the Pricing page of our website.
7. Is the equipment provided?
Yes, all equipment is included in our lessons: surfboards, wetsuits, and rash guards, tailored to your level and the surf conditions. We adapt everything to your ability, size, and the daily surf forecast.
8. Can I book a lesson online?

9. Can I rent a surfboard without taking a lesson?
No, we do not offer board, bodyboard, or wetsuit rentals. However, rental services are available on the beach or elsewhere on the island depending on the season.
10. Are lessons held if it rains?
Yes, lessons are maintained in case of rain. However, they may be postponed or canceled if conditions become dangerous (storms, strong winds, or large swells).
11. Do you offer surf camps?
Yes, we offer 3-day and 5-day surf camps, ideal for fast, safe progression.
12. How many students per lesson?
Groups are limited to 8 students per instructor to ensure personalized coaching and better progress.
13. Do you offer year-round lessons?
Yes, we offer year-round lessons for club members, including regular follow-ups, competitive coaching for youth, and team-building activities.
14. Is the club affiliated with a federation?
Yes, we are affiliated with the French Surfing Federation and certified as a French Surf School and Handi Surf School.
15. Do you offer adaptive (handi-surf) lessons?
Yes, we welcome individuals with disabilities through our Handi Surf label, using adapted equipment and trained inclusive instructors.
16. Does the school follow an environmental policy?
Yes, we are committed to an environmental approach: use of biodegradable products, dismantling facilities in winter, ecology education, and membership in the “Responsible Nautical Network”.
17. Can I offer a surf lesson or surf camp as a gift?
Yes, you can gift a surf lesson or course to a friend or loved one. However, booking must be made in advance, either by phone, email, or directly through the booking page on our website.
